Desk lighting doesn’t sound exciting. But get it wrong and your eyes pay the price by mid-afternoon. I’ve been testing the Quntis Luxury Monitor Light Bar, and this one does things a little differently from your standard bar. It has a three-segment foldable arm, a radar motion sensor, and dual controls. Here’s what I found.
Not Just a Monitor Bar
The first thing to know is that this isn’t really a traditional monitor light bar. It’s closer to a full desk lamp. The arm folds out in three stages across five rotating joints, which means you can position it pretty much however you need. Spread flat across a wide desk, folded in tight to focus on a smaller space, or pushed back against a wall to keep your desk clear.
Fully extended, it reaches 82 centimetres. That’s over 32 inches. If you’re running dual monitors or a wide ultrawide setup, this has the reach to cover the whole thing properly.
It Fits Almost Any Desk
The clamp handles desktops from 1 centimetre up to just over 7 centimetres thick, so it should work on pretty much any surface. Standing desks, drafting tables, architect desks. Quntis describe the clamp as patented and rotating, which in practice means you can swivel the whole lamp to suit wherever you’re positioning it.
The Radar Sensor Is the Real Story
Most desk lamps with motion sensors use PIR technology. The same stuff as a basic home security light. The problem with PIR is that it struggles to detect movement coming straight towards it, and it can’t pick up fine movement. So sitting still at your desk, just typing, will often cause it to switch off on you.
Radar works differently. It picks up motion from a much wider field of view, including head-on approaches. It can detect small, subtle movements. Which means it actually registers that you’re there even when you’re sat quietly working. It switches on automatically when you sit down and turns off five minutes after you leave. Detection range is around 60 centimetres in diameter.
It sounds like a small thing. In practice, it means you stop thinking about the lamp entirely. It just works.
Genuinely Good Light Quality
CRI is over 95 on this lamp. That matters because a high CRI means colours look the way they actually should. No weird tints. No fighting with your monitor because the lamp is throwing out a colour cast that clashes with what’s on screen.
You get four colour temperatures, running from a warm 3000K up to a crisp 5000K. Five brightness levels on top of that. So whether you’re doing design work, gaming late at night, editing video, or just reading, there’s a setting that suits the situation.
Two Ways to Control It
There’s a touch panel on the lamp itself and a wireless remote. Both handle brightness and colour temperature. Not having to reach over and prod the bar every time you want to adjust something is more useful than it sounds when you’re in the middle of a task.
Power comes via a non-USB type adapter with a standard plug type for your region.
Worth It?
If you want a desk light that covers a wide setup, has a motion sensor that actually works when you’re sitting still, and produces accurate, comfortable light, this delivers on all of it. The radar sensor alone puts it ahead of most of the competition in this space. The foldable arm means it fits setups that a standard bar simply wouldn’t reach.
